The Tshwane University of Technology Library and Information Services is a member of the Gauteng and Environs Library Consortium, the largest academic library consortium in South Africa. GAELIC was formed in response to conditions in the higher education sector at the time, and in recognition of the need to cooperate and become more cost effective. The consortium, with its sixteen member libraries, holds at least 40 percent of the nation's information resources.
